The base flares out at the floor and up to the top in an hourglass profile on our Contemporary Sculptural Console Table With Carved Open Cutouts For Entryway, a modern wood console table carved through with rounded openings. A flat top with gently curved ends sits above the open carving.

The Sculptural Look

Rounded cutouts of different sizes run through the hourglass base, carved so light and wall show through rather than a solid block. The open work keeps the piece visually light despite being solid wood all the way through, which is what makes this an entryway modern console table rather than a heavy traditional one. All sizes stay 12 inches deep and 30 inches tall, so only the width changes the scale.

Flared at the floor, flared at the top

Each end of the base widens as it meets the floor and again as it reaches the flat top, which has gently curved ends. The pinch in between is where most of the rounded openings cluster.

The seller was very communicative throughout the entire process. They built the entire shelf, sent a picture, and allowed us to make modifications such as adding branches and leaves, so that we were perfectly happy with the design. The whole process was fairly quick and everything arrived well packaged. There is some assembly required, the directions are very clear, but you are essentially building a tree branch by branch and trying to mount the shelves level and keep everything secure as you go along. Overall extremely happy with the final product. Such a unique item to have in our home!

Very close, but not identical. Every piece is made from solid timber, so grain and tone vary from one item to the next — that variation is the point of a natural material rather than a fault. Screens differ too, so treat the photos as a guide.

How is the timber treated?
